ECOM

Hafa Adai,

Today, I would like to introduce something important to know when traveling to Guam: renting a Wi-Fi router or purchasing a SIM card.

In today’s world, having access to the internet is essential no matter where you go. Guam is no exception. Whether it’s staying in touch with family and friends during your trip, searching for stores, optional tours, gathering information, checking your location on a map, or making reservations for restaurants and tours online—everything becomes much easier. Sometimes, you can even enjoy exclusive deals available only through online bookings.

E-Communications, or ecom, is a company that helps tourists visiting Guam with their internet needs. It’s recommended to make a reservation online before leaving your home country, but it’s also fine to rent or purchase upon arrival in Guam.

The photo above shows the ecom counter at Guam International Airport, located to the right after exiting the arrival gate. It is open 22 hours a day, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 AM the following day, so it caters to both early morning and late-night arrivals and departures.

For Wi-Fi routers, ecom offers several types, all with an average speed of 10 Mbps and unlimited data usage via 4G LTE. These are more than sufficient for searching and making reservations, confirming your location on a map, and other necessary tasks during your trip to Guam. Additionally, the connection can support up to 10 devices at once.

The rental fee is $5 per day, and you can rent it on a daily basis.

SIM cards are available for 4-day and 7-day options. Just like the Wi-Fi routers, they come with unlimited data, and there are no restrictions on phone calls within Guam. Even if you think Wi-Fi will be sufficient, having access to a regular phone line during an emergency can be a great help. If you need to contact our office or the police for any car rental issues or accidents, it may be difficult to reach out via Wi-Fi, so I personally recommend purchasing a SIM card.

The prices are $20 for the 4-day option and $25 for the 7-day option. The 7-day option is slightly more affordable than renting a Wi-Fi router. However, to use the SIM card, your smartphone must be unlocked. Please check this before purchasing.

ecom also has a counter at Don Don Donki Guam. The rental and purchase options, including pricing and services, are exactly the same as at the airport counter.

You can either pick up your Wi-Fi router or SIM card at the airport when you arrive, or stop by Don Don Donki Guam, which is just a few minutes’ drive from the airport on your way to the hotel area. If you’re renting a car, you could practice by heading to Don Don Donki Guam and renting it there. However, if you make a reservation online in advance, the only pick-up location for your device is at the airport counter.

Wi-Fi routers are in limited supply, so be sure to make a reservation as soon as you decide to go to Guam. Additionally, when renting in Guam, there is a security deposit required in addition to the rental fee.

Ensure that your internet connection is well-prepared and enjoy your time in Guam!

Please note that both the Wi-Fi and SIM cards use Docomo Pacific for their network.
