What license is required to drive on Guam?

Accepted Answer

As long as you carry your original, valid driver's license from home, there's no need for a separate International Driving Permit during your first 30 days on Guam (licenses issued in the U.S. are good for 90 days). If your license came from somewhere other than your home country, the rule may work differently, so it's best to check with us before you travel. We can only accept the physical original — a photo on your phone or a photocopy won't be accepted at the counter.

At what age can I rent a car in Guam?

Accepted Answer

As soon as you turn 18, you're eligible to rent from us. Some companies add a surcharge for renters between 21 and 24, but that kind of age-based fee doesn't exist at e Rent-A-Car Guam. Just remember to bring the main driver's original license when you arrive.

Are there additional fees based on age?

Accepted Answer

No extra charge applies based on age once you're 18 or older. It's fairly common for overseas rental companies to add a "young driver" surcharge for people aged 21-24, but we've chosen not to do that — an 18-year-old renter pays exactly what everyone else does.

What do I need to rent a car?

Accepted Answer

Please bring the license of whoever will actually be driving, a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Diners), and a passport. If the driver's own name isn't on a card, a travel companion's card is fine. Should the driver and the person paying be two different people, we'll need both of their passports. Cash, debit cards, and prepaid cards aren't accepted for payment. If no one in your group has a credit card, take a look at our page on renting with cash instead.

Can I rent without a credit card?

No card in hand doesn't mean no rental — pay a $150 deposit and sign up for the full trio of optional protection (CDW, ZDW, and NOC), and a cash payment works just as well. Premiums for each vary by vehicle class and other factors, so check the Insurance & Coverage page for the current figures.

What is included in the car rental fee?

With the exception of a few package plans, the listed price already covers the car and automobile liability insurance (LP). That insurance pays up to $100,000 if you injure one person, capped at $300,000 total for a single accident, and up to $50,000 for property damage. For coverage beyond those amounts, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are all available to add on.

Are there any restrictions on installing a child safety seat?

Child seats may only be installed in the back seats — we're not able to fit one up front. Guam law requires a seat sized to your child: an Infant Seat for newborns to age 1 (up to 9kg), a Child Seat for ages 1-4 (9-18kg), or a Booster Seat for ages 4-11 (up to 145cm). See the Options page for the current rental price. *Installation is up to you, and please return the seat to the counter when you drop off the car. How many the vehicle can hold depends on the class.

Is the cost of gasoline included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

Aside from a few package plans, gasoline is on you, and the standard is a full tank both when you take the car and when you bring it back. If it comes back less than full, we'll charge from our fee schedule — but once the handling charge is added, that runs noticeably more than just topping it off yourself before returning it. Question 9

Do you offer hotel or airport pick-up and drop-off?

Accepted Answer

We run a free shuttle between our store and hotels in the Tumon area. We don't collect guests directly from the airport, but it's only about a 10-minute drive from Guam International Airport to our store. Customers who arrive by taxi from the airport get $15 off the rental — bring the taxi receipt to the front desk when you settle up. No receipt, no cashback, unfortunately. When you return the car, we'll drive you back to the airport at no charge.

Can you bring a rental car to my hotel?

Accepted Answer

We're not able to deliver a car to your hotel — the rental paperwork needs to be completed in person at our store. If you're staying in Tumon, check our list of covered hotels for the free shuttle running to and from the store.

Question 11

Is there a place to park my car at night?

Accepted Answer

Parking is free at most hotels on Guam, so just use your own hotel's lot — there's no need to hunt for street parking. As a precaution, take any valuables with you rather than leaving them in view, or lock them out of sight.

Question 12

Is the rental car an automatic transmission (AT) car?

Accepted Answer

Every car we rent out is automatic transmission (AT). We don't carry any manual (MT) models, so an automatic-only license, or simply being out of practice with a clutch, is never an issue here.

Question 13

Can I specify the car model and color?

Accepted Answer

We're unable to take requests for a specific model or color. Reservations are made by class — A-Special, A-class, and so on — and the exact vehicle comes from whichever models in that class happen to be available on the day. Even with a favorite in mind, we can't make any promises, so please plan accordingly. Sample models for each class appear on our Vehicles & Rates page.

Are children included in the passenger capacity?

Accepted Answer

Yes — any child riding along, no matter how young, is counted as one passenger. Seating capacity ranges from 4 to 8 depending on the class, so leave room for anyone who'll need a child seat when you're deciding which class to book.

Can I ride in the bed of a pickup truck?

Accepted Answer

Guam doesn't actually prohibit riding in a pickup truck bed by law, but we still ask anyone renting from us to avoid it for safety's sake. Other Guam-specific rules of the road are covered on our Traffic Rules page.

Are rental cars non-smoking?

Accepted Answer

Every car we rent is non-smoking, no exceptions. Even if you never smoked inside, a strong lingering odor at return that keeps us from sending the car straight to the next renter will result in a one-day rental charge.

What insurance coverage is included in the rental fee?

Every rental includes automobile liability insurance (LP). It covers up to $100,000 for any one person you injure, up to $300,000 total if an accident hurts more than one person, and up to $50,000 for property damage. For protection past those figures, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are each available separately as options.

What is the cost if I have an accident?

Accepted Answer

Any accident brings a $150 legal handling fee, regardless of what coverage you're carrying at the time. On top of that, going without CDW and ZDW leaves you responsible for $1,000 of the repair bill (capped overall at $50,000), and skipping NOC means covering the loss-of-use charge yourself — $250 if the car is still drivable, $400 if it isn't. Carry no optional coverage at all, and you could end up paying for nearly everything out of pocket — repairs, medical costs, all of it — which is the main reason we suggest adding it.

Can I raise the liability insurance limit included in the rental fee?

Accepted Answer

The liability limits built into the base rate — $100,000 per person and $300,000 total for injuries, $50,000 for property damage — aren't something you can pay to raise. *We haven't yet had an accident that went past those limits. Still, if extra peace of mind matters to you, CDW, ZDW, and NOC are worth a look.

Can I drive a rental car to Ritidian Beach?

Accepted Answer

The area around Ritidian Beach has seen crime reports targeting tourists, the road surface is rough enough to risk a flat tire, and cell coverage can disappear entirely if something goes wrong. For your safety, we ask that you not take our rental cars out there. A local guided tour is a much safer way to see it if you'd still like to visit.
