When renting a car on Guam, look beyond the daily rate. Return conditions, optional waivers, and coverage exclusions all affect what you end up paying. e-Rent-A-Car publishes these conditions, so you can sort out which charges you can avoid and which protections cover you in an accident.

Filling up with the wrong fuel is charged an NOC, a service fee and the cost of new fuel, even with insurance. The car leaves full and comes back full, and you show the gas receipt at return.
Cigarette or marijuana odor and excessive sand are charged. A traffic ticket adds a company service fee to the fine, and an unreported ticket carries a penalty.
The base rate includes liability protection of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for bodily injury, plus $50,000 for property damage. It does not cover the rental car itself, so CDW ($1,000 deductible), ZDW, and NOC are recommended for peace of mind.
The $100 preauthorization at departure is a temporary card hold, not a fee. Even with coverage, the accident-processing fee and exclusions such as natural disasters, theft, and hit-and-run still apply.

The $100 preauthorization is not an extra fee
A $100 preauthorization hold is placed on the credit card at departure. It temporarily reserves part of the card’s available credit; it is not a payment transferred to e-Rent-A-Car. When the hold is released depends on your card issuer.
Published charges you can often prevent
Wrong fuel: Most vehicles take regular unleaded (Shell FuelSave at Shell stations); if your car needs a different fuel, it will be marked on the fuel door or explained at pickup. Wrong fuel triggers an NOC charge, a service fee and the fuel-replacement cost, regardless of insurance.
Return fuel: As a rule, cars are rented with a full tank and returned with a full tank. If, in rare cases, the car was not full at pickup, return it at the same level as at pickup. Refuel with the specified fuel on the return date and show the fuel receipt when you return the car. Excess fuel is not reimbursed.
Interior condition: Excessive sand, heavy mud or stains, and orange dirt that needs detailing and deep cleaning are charged a cleaning fee (the amounts are in the terms).
Smoking and pets: Smoking is prohibited. Cigarette or marijuana odor and an unauthorized pet result in a charge (the amounts are in the terms).
Keys and battery: Lost or wet keys and a battery drained through the renter’s carelessness are charged to the renter (the amounts are listed in our terms and conditions). A reported missing key is replaced for security even if later recovered.
Tickets: The renter pays the ticket plus a company service fee. An unreported ticket carries a penalty, so notify the office immediately.
Pull up alongside the pump, and check the required fuel type in your agreement and on the vehicle before filling up.
Included LP and three optional protections
The base rate includes liability protection (LP) for qualifying injury and property damage to others. The published limits are $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for bodily injury, plus $50,000 per accident for property damage. LP does not cover damage to the rental car itself or loss-of-use charges; that is what the options below are for.
CDW: An optional waiver that limits what you pay for repairs to the rental car (up to $50,000) to a $1,000 deductible. It applies to qualifying car-to-car collisions when both drivers are present. Without CDW, you pay the full repair cost. It costs $17 per day for compact cars (Class A) and $22 for SUVs, convertibles, vans, and pickups. Check the insurance page for current rates.
ZDW: Waives the $1,000 CDW deductible and may be added only with CDW. The listed price is $10 per day.
NOC waiver: Waives the non-operation charge while a damaged vehicle is unavailable. Without it, a non-operation charge applies, depending on whether the car can still be driven and rented. The listed price is $7 per day.
We recommend adding CDW, ZDW, and NOC for peace of mind. Keep in mind, though, that no option makes every possible charge disappear, so review what each one covers.

Costs you may still owe even with coverage
The accident-processing service fee for an accident or a new deep scratch or dent
Failure to report an accident, obtain a police case number, or remain at the scene
Unregistered drivers, impaired or reckless driving, and device use while driving
Windows, tires, wheels, keys, theft, hit-and-run damage, and other listed exclusions
Vehicle damage caused by typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, or other natural disasters
Register every person who may drive. The terms list an additional driver at $5 per person per day and a penalty if an unregistered person drives. Damage involving an unregistered driver is excluded from coverage.
After an accident, contact police and the office immediately
Secure the scene, call Guam Police at 911, and notify e-Rent-A-Car immediately. Obtain the police case number and document the scene, other vehicle, plate, and damage. Delayed or missing reporting can invalidate coverage.
